Back to School Night - Principals' Opening Statements

OPENING INFORMATION (September, 2020)

Dear Keystone Family,

A warm welcome to the 2020 – 2021 school year! I am sure this will be a year like no other. We understand that this year will require a great deal of flexibility and adaptability on everyone’s part. Please, let’s be patient with each other as we work through this new and unprecedented time.

School officially begins virtually on Tuesday, September 8th. The school day begins at 9:20 AM and ends at 3:45 PM. Unlike in the spring, we will not be utilizing any outside programs. Your child’s teacher will be providing instruction and will soon let you know what the daily schedule will look like. She/he will contact you via email after August 31st to introduce themselves. Your child will receive daily instruction in all of the major content areas in addition to our special areas (art, music, PE & library). The following is a breakdown of time allotments per content area:

  • Language Arts  90 minutes
  • Math  90 minutes
  • Social Studies  45 minutes
  • Science  45 minutes
  • Special  30 minutes

Please be assured, your child will not be expected to sit in front of the computer all day. The teachers will be providing direct instruction as well as small group and individual break-out sessions. In addition, teachers will provide activities for students to work either independently or in small groups. Teachers will also be providing instruction on how to use the SeeSaw learning platform. We will continue to use Morning Meeting as part of our Responsive Classroom Program.

The home/school partnership has always been an important component of a child’s success. We need your help in providing the things your child needs for successful learning at home. Your help will be essential in the following areas:

  • Establishing a daily routine or schedule
  • Finding a quiet space for school work
  • Providing an organized desk or work space
  • Providing adult supervision
  • Having someone available for help when your child needs it and encouraging your child to ask for help when needed

We understand that full-time virtual learning is different and will present many challenges, but it also provides an opportunity for growth and learning. Learning how to learn, self-regulate, self-advocate, set goals and reflect on progress toward those goals are all components of virtual learning that we will be working on with our children.

If you still need a Chromebook for your child, please contact our technology department to arrange for a pick up time at techsupport@bristoltwpsd.org  If you encounter hardware issues with your Chromebook, please either call our technology department at 267-599-2021 or email them at [email protected]

For Parent Portal issues, please email icampus.portal@bristoltwpsd.org

If you need to update any contact information such as email addresses and phone numbers, you may do so in the Parent Portal.

For your child to begin using the Chromebooks they must enter their user name which is:

Their student ID number followed by @bristoltwpsd.org

The password will also be their student ID.

If you still have trouble contact our tech support.

All kindergarten students must have an iPad to do their virtual learning.

Remember, we are all facing challenges where we feel like it may be impossible to stay ahead. We must stay ahead. We will work together to make this school year the best it can possibly be for our children. Remember we are here to support you in any way that we can. You are not alone.

Sincerely,
Mark Wilicki - Principal, Keystone Elementary School
